Our hope at The Center for Leadership and Service is that we can provide intentional learning opportunities for our students so they can develop into effective and ethical leaders who serve as engaged citizens for the global community. We are looking for students to join us to create and lead programs. We want students to come to our center to find their connection to campus and the community. The Center for Leadership and Service has five different Student Leadership Boards for students who are interested in planning events, connecting to other students, and serving the community. Check out VolUNTeer League, LEAD Ambassadors, Alternative Breaks, Be the Match Ambassadors and the BIG Event for opportunities to join the Center for Leadership and Service.
VolUNTeer League is a student‐run leadership board that involves students in community service and social action, through providing on‐going community service opportunities. The VolUNTeer League hosts monthly interest meetings where students can sign up to participate in local community service projects led by other students.
LEAD Ambassadors is a group of students who serve as leadership ambassadors for the Center for Leadership and Service They plan and facilitate outreach programs such as retreats, conferences, workshops, team building and personal development exercises. Throughout the year LEAD Ambassadors will attend on-going training sessions to continue learning and growing as a leader. LEAD Ambassadors is a tightly-knit group of excellent student leadership who provide exciting programs and learning opportunities for other students throughout the year.
The Big Event was started in 2011 by a team of students who wanted to create a new service tradition at UNT. This annual event is planned by the BIG Event leadership board and will occur April 6,2013 in the upcoming year. The Big Event student leadership board started this new service initiative in March 2011 with more than 1,800 students making a difference in the Denton community working with children, the enviroment, poverty and other issues. You don't want to miss this tradition of service planned and created by students.
The Alternative Service Breaks Student Leadership Board plans service trips which occur during weekends and spring break. Students plan the trips, lodging, training and recruit the participants to participate in this life changing program. Students can participate as Board members, site leaders and participants. The team is planning 20 spring break trips for 2013 as well as weekend trips.
Be the Match Ambassadors serve help connect UNT students, staff and faculty to the Be the Match Registry. These Student Ambassadors recruit people to join the marrow registry, assist in planning Cancer Awareness Week (April 8-12, 2013) and participate in outreach events throughout the year. The Center for Leadership and Service works with a variety of student organizations on campus to fulfill our mission of creating a community of students who are passionate about service and leadership. We encourage our students to get involved with these organizations.
